The Sangguniang Bayan, in its aim of furthering good education among its younger generation set its eyes for the future in establishing the Dalandanan Annex of the Valenzuela Municipal High School with the goal of making the said annex as independent High School of the First District.
The land when the school stands now was a feasible site for a school. So the Municipal Government of Valenzuela, Metro Manila with a total land area of 5,327 square meters more or less.
The land area with TCT No. V-39836 was acquired in the name of Municipal Government of Valenzuela with the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). This was in collaboration with the Municipality of Valenzuela, represented by Hon. Mayor Jose Emmanuel Carlos, MD. The Department of Education, Culture and Sports represented by former Schools Division Superintendent of VALMANA, Dr. Luis R. Santos Jr. ensured a permanent site for Dalandanan High School “for as long as it is utilized for educational purposes”.
Efforts of the then School Principal of Valenzuela Municipal High School, Dr. Joel T. San Luis, should also be recognized in this endeavor.
Pursuant to the DECS Order No. 5 s. 1989, after careful evaluation of documents submitted in accordance with the guidelines in the said DECS Order, coupled with the ocular inspection conducted on adequacy of classrooms, instructional materials, supplies and school facilities in meeting the needs of the students, the school has satisfactorily complied with the requirements and hence its legal establishment has been approved creating its legal title “Dalandanan National High School.” A new school supported by the National Budget.
The school had a total of 2, 120 students with 74 teachers in the start of its operations, School Year 1996 – 1997. Mrs Saturnina R. Bulan, through hard and work and perseverance, made it fully operational. DNHS then offered three shifts/sessions to serve the community and the students.
The school pledged instructional legacy with 84 dedicated teachers and a total of 3, 860 for the School Year 2002 – 2003. dream came true through the blissful efforts of Mr. Margarito B. Materum, Principal II. Everything had changed to progress.
Dalandanan National High School is now surrounded with fence, then by a two storey concrete building with eight (8) rooms was added to the original three storey concrete building with twenty – four classrooms. Another three storey concrete building is already finished with fourteen (14) classrooms and one stage in the ground level.
Part of changes are the Principal’s Office, Guidance Counselor’s Office, Department Heads’ Office, Library, School Clinic, Stock Room, Home Economics, Filipino Service Bureau, Social Studies Corner, Student Government Organization, English Corner, Science Laboratory and a Computer Room. A centralized City Library was constructed in 1998.
Aside from the school facilities, Mr. Margarito B. Materum initiated the promotions of the eight (8) Department Heads and Five (5) Master Teachers and one (1) Guidance Specialist.
From 2004 to February 25, 2009, Dalandanan National High School was headed by a high caliber and a veteran Principal IV, Mrs. Amelita SP. Madarang. She believed on delegation of tasks and duties. This yielded better performance of teachers in improving the quality of education among the student populace. In a short span of time, there were marked improvement in DNHS, in terms of human resources and physical facilities.
After the retirement of Mrs. Amelita SP. Madarang, Dr. Andres M. Leabres, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, took in charge of the School from February 26 to June 15, 2009.
Dr, Leabres believed in creating a challenging learning environment to encourage high expectations for success through development – appropriate instruction that allows for individual differences and learning styles.
He was the forerunner in the construction of a student plaza and comfort rooms. These newly constructed facilities undoubtedly gave comfort to the students and teachers.
Mrs. Maxima G. Carlos assumed her office as newly – appointed principal last June 16, 2009. and . She believes in inspiring students ito be confident and creative builders of their future and to achieve the highest standards of intellectual and personal development through stimulating and comprehensive programs.
Along these comprehensive programs, she initiated a support program for the out of school youth as well as students with special needs to be given equal opportunity with the rest of the student populace to finish high school through the inclusion of the Open High School Program, Alternative Learning System and the Special Education Program in the School program of Activities since 2010 to present.
In her three years as principal of the school, she introduced a lot of improvements not only in academic but also in the physical development of the school. To mention a few of her accomplishments as effective leader, she managed to look for funds for the completion of the construction of a stairway connecting the 2nd and 3rd floors of Buildings 2 and 3, respectively. In addition, she made some improvements specifically the tiling of the corridors and classrooms of the 2nd and 3rd floors of Building 1 and 2nd floor of Building 3, coupled with the construction of additional faculty rooms and offices to serve its clientele in the best possible ways.
Dalandanan National High School continuously improves its physical facilities through the construction of 4-storey 50 classroom building through the leadership of Dr. Floredeliza R. Mayari, Schools Division Superintendent, who dreams the school to become a mega school in the Division of City Schools – Valenzuela. Likewise, this facilities improvement is made possible through the concerted efforts of the Barangay Captain, Ramon Encarnacion, Mayor Sherwin T. Gatchalian now our Congressman in the First District and then Congressman Rexlon T. Gatchalian now our City Mayor.
Our School is known for its commitment in providing quality education for the people of Valenzuela. Our School’s teaching force is working collaboratively in nurturing our students to become God – fearing, well rounded and globally competitive individuals. For several years, our school has able to achieved outstanding achievements in terms of academic excellence.
On July 24 – 28, 2013, one of our second year students, Ronelio A. Barasi of II – Diamond, participated in International Mathematics Competition in Hong Kong where he won three (3) International medals to wit: Bronze medalist in King of Math International Mathematics Contest; Bronze medalist in Environmental Green Cup search for Math Wizards 2013 and silver medalist in 2013 Mathematics International Asia Cup. To further motivate the students to strive for excellence in the fields of Science and Mathematics, the DOST – SEI recognized Ronelio A. Barasi’s achievement and he was one of the awardees of the Youth Excellence Awards (YES) held last February 12, 2014 at the UP National Institute for Science & Mathematics Education Development (NISMED) Auditorium, Quirino Avenue Corner, Velasquez St., UP Diliman Campus, Quezon City.
It was election time when Mrs. Maxima Carlos retired last May 11, 2016. Dr. Meliton P. Zurbano, Officer-In-Charge of the Office of Schools Division Superintendent assumed office until such time that a new principal could be appointed for the school. It was brief but he gave all-out support to the school’s needs specially during the National Maintenance Week (Brigada Eskwela 2016).
Mr. Ronald A. Trono had his first day as the 8th principal of Dalandanan National High School on June 10, 2016. A four –storey 20 classrooms building was constructed to accommodate the Junior High School students during his time. A covered court will soon be realized. Improving the school’s facilities is one of the identified priority improvement areas and it is continuously being enhanced to meet students’ needs.
One room is allotted to be the library to really serve its function: to allow for students to research. It would be a modern and well-equipped learning resource section for students to be able to not only do research but also to hone their reading skills.
The school will continuously improve itself to provide quality services to its clientele.
